So true!! The same has been said in the Bhagavad Gita, chapter 2 verse 47. Which says tha you have a right to your prescribed duty, but never to its fruits, nor should you be the cause of results or attached to inaction
So sorry I accidentally posted that before I had a chance to finish because really what does that knowledge do for a person unless they have some way of reaching and connecting and communicating in that Eternal dimension and even participating on that plane? So if Christ had not Risen from the dead if the Resurrection had not happened Christians of all men, would have less to be joyous about and would actually be more stoic than the Stoics spending all their time in self- improvement and striving but we know that sin and dead has been destroyed and so while we are here in the body and alive on this Earth we do put our labor and strength toward mastering our actions and thoughts and loving our brothers as ourselves but our heart and soul is ever focused on God, the author and Creator of life “in whom we live and move and have our being”, as Epimendes said of Zeus.
I really love the Stoics and I think that early Christians often referred to them and tried to find areas of common ground in their philosophy. Veritas, is that your real last name? I wish you all the best with this new online endeavor I think it is definitely a worthy one. I’m sure you have heard of the Serenity prayer, that is one many Christians pray and sounds like it is similar to some of Stoicism’s basic tenets. The struggle with our own passions and desires and in dosing our mind and heart in our own actions and what we can control is the foundation the minimum actually of what Christians aspire to. Because the “ world” does not determine, in our understanding of humanity, life, and history, the actual course the arrow takes. It is not fate or chance or mathematical probability that decides the outcome of any given action instead it is God Himself because, and I do think the Ancient Greeks believed this too only in their religion is was the various and sundry gods, demigods etc etc who decided which way the winds blew etc etc., true reality is lived in the Eternal dimension and our present life here on Earth is on the temporal plane.
