In this episode of Peaky Blinders, we see the recurring theme that the character, Tommy, believes that he died during the war, and everything after has simply been extra. He isn’t held back by anything anymore- his past or the fear of death- and this helps him work towards his goals.

Sometimes we limit ourselves not because we’re weak or lacking- only that pushing ourselves past the edge feels terrifying. It’s frightening to imagine more being demanded of you when you already feel stretched by the day, worn down by setbacks, or drained by the effort it takes to simply show up. I know you’d rather stay comfortable, stay away from the action, do the bare minimum. And honestly, who wouldn’t? Comfort is sweet. You’ve earned the convenience. Apathy is also quite seductive when life has been unkind and you’ve spent years pretending you’re fine.
