VI. Take Charge
It's not enough to lose your self-esteem over worldly goods oscillating back and forth into your life whenever fate pleases.
"If we limited "good" and "bad" to our own actions, we'd have no call to challenge God, or to treat other people as enemies." — Marcus Aurelius
You feel desolate and crushed that nothing is going your way.
You feel like crying.
Social media keeps showing you people celebrating their wins.
You feel happy for them but there's a tinge of envy behind the facade.
When will your time come? Why not you? When will you catch a break? You ask yourself.
It seems the gods only serve you endless bad luck and suffering on a silver platter.
But look,
"It's normal...for a human being to feel stress — if he's living a normal human life. And if it's normal, how can it be bad?" — Marcus Aurelius
Albert Camus suggests a rebellious idea in his book The Myth of Sisyphus about the human condemned by the gods to keep rolling a stone uphill only to see it reel back down ad nauseam.
"One must imagine Sisyphus happy."
Own it. What you feel is expected as long as you’re alive.
So what you keep working hard without a return on value?
Life's not about that.
The quality of your intentions, the wise and resilient character you're showing in this journey is everything.
Find pride in it.
It's not enough to lose your self-esteem over worldly goods oscillating back and forth into your life whenever fate pleases.
That's madness.
Believe in yourself. You're in a much better place than you were before.
Look around. There are people far worse off than you. Be grateful.
Keep getting better at what you do, refining your strategy, adapting and learning ancillary skills that enhance your presentation and put you in front of more people.
Take care of your health. Optimize your energy and focus.
It's only a matter of time before you start looking back, wishing you told your past self that it'll be alright — you'll win.
That you were on the right path, doing what you were supposed to do and that was enough.
That you didn't have to hate yourself because you weren't where you were wanted to be.
It’s only a matter of time, dear reader.
Today's task:
- Tune out of socials. Take a walk and think of how you can take control of your life situation.
- Do some work whenever you feel down and out. The progress will be enough to fill your heart and keep you going.
See you tomorrow. xo
