There is a path we're being prepared for in the midst of our sufferings; often ,the suffering we face are the things we've no control. After that awakening, we now turn inwards and see the light.

If anyone missed the reference, Milo was said to have carried a bull calf over his shoulders. As the calf grew, Milo became stronger. This is an early reference to progressive load in weight lifting.

Also, winding path, not winded path.winded is equivalent to exhausted.

Not to be picky, but it should be “ refine us as completely as possible” or “as well as possible”. Best is an ultimate, not a step on the way.
