Lovely, just lovely. Particularly because I’ve often found the mind not to be my friend, though perhaps that was because I let it (imagination, desires, emotions) run roughshod over me, instead of training it where to cast its glance and where not to.
Excellent reflection and guidance! So true. The lens from which we see the world is selected by our mind and that lens can be positive or negative, your choice. I choose positive. It takes effort, mental focus, reading, meditating and even prayer, with the result of a life of balance, well-being and happiness. I read somewhere, maybe here, the best resistance to difficulty, negativity in the world is practicing joy. We are here to enjoy, love and experience the miracle of our presence. Getting sucked into living a life of negativity, anxiety and sadness is not the purpose, those maybe lessons to get you to understand the real purpose of life. Learning to filter out the triggers and distractions is how to use our mind wisely. Thank you for your wise reflections!
Protecting your inner peace from external cruelty is the ultimate act of self-governance. A well-tended mind remains an unshakable sanctuary amidst chaos.
As Marcus Aurelius wrote:
The universe is change; our life is what our thoughts make it.
Distraction is destruction. Therefore, prosoche (προσοχή) - attention, vigilance, is everything. We must filter everything that enters the mind, without exception. Every impression, every opinion, every impulse should pass through an inner gate of discernment before it is allowed to take root. Otherwise, the mind becomes scattered, and a scattered mind produces scattered lives.

I've read this twice. I will keep coming back to it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

Such a timely reminder. The mind is the one thing we actually have power over, yet we so often neglect it. Thank you for this.
